FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

I’m interested in flying with my friends. Is the flight limited to one person at a time?

  1. The difference between Core Heli and the “tour helicopter-bus” rides is that you are in the cockpit with the controls on a personal 2 seat high-performance sports-helicopter where a private flight instructor will tailor the flight experience to you.

Can my friends and I take the ground instruction together and schedule the flight simultaneously or in succession?

Can we fly when the weather gets colder?

  1. Yes. You and your friends can take the ground instruction together, and because we fly multiple helicopters, the flights can be in quick succession or with the Flight-of-Two option you can fly together at the same time.

  1. Yes. The helicopters are heated, and colder denser air actually improves the helicopters performance.

Do you fly over Manhattan during the intro flight lesson?

  1. We can fly over Manhattan but this would require a more Extended Flight option.

What’s there to do for my friends who may not be participating in the flight training?

  1. Your friends are also welcome to sit in during the ground portion of the flight-training provided space is available. We’ve also got a nice picnic area, an outdoor BBQ, a ping-pong table and a few boys toys like a Segway and a dune-buggy.

Is the Flight Training Certificate valid for any other locations?

  1. Yes. The Flight Training Certificate is a FAA authorized proof of your flight training and is valid for a period of 2 years at any flight school in the US. With this certificate, you can go anywhere to continue your flight training without having to repeat the first class.

  1. It’s like driving a high-end sports car versus riding on a bus. It’s a totally different experience.

  1. Because we fly a fleet of helicopters we offer a Flight-of-Two option with 2 helicopters flying at the same time with you and your friends in each helicopter. You’ll be able to take Air-to-Air photographs of each other and talk to your friends over the radio! This is a great way to share your flight experience.

  1. It would be like learning to drive a car for the first time in the middle of mid-town Manhattan traffic. Not that it hasn’t been done before...

Do I have to be a US-Citizen to fly?

  1. No. You can take the Introductory Flight lesson without being a US-Citizen. We only need a valid Photo-ID. You also don’t need to be a US-Citizen to get your Pilot’s license, you simply need to register with the TSA for a category 3 training request at Core Helicopters in NJ, which can be processed as quickly as 3-4 days!

  1. The maximum weight limit on the R22 Helicopter is 225 pounds. If you weigh more than this we can fly on the R44 Helicopter. Please email us for details.

How can I schedule a custom private session at the day and time of my choosing?

  1. If you would like to schedule during the weekdays at any time of your choosing 7x24, it would be a custom private session.

  2. You would be the only person attending and the instructors and helicopters would be exclusively reserved for you. This option is available at the normal regular price or for the cost difference between the discounted voucher price.

  3. Discounted flights can only be scheduled on the weekends when we can get a group of people together. Please email us if you would like to setup a custom private helicopter session.

How difficult is it to schedule a flight?

  1. Flight scheduling is not difficult as we have *3* helicopters, 2 of them being R22’s dedicated for flight instruction. We recommend you book early however if there is a very specific date and time you would like to fly.

Can the Flight Instructor take a picture of me while I’m flying the helicopter?

  1. No. The Flight Instructors must keep their hands near the controls at all times for safety reasons and will not be able to take a picture of you in flight. We recommend the Flight-of-Two option if you would like Air-to-Air pictures.
