The Desert Sun has a new education reporter in Jonathan Horwitz, an Orange County native who received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from USC.

Horwitz has previously written for National Parks Traveler and Earth Island Institute, and he founded and edited the USC-UNESECO journal while in college. He was also a Fulbright Business Grantee, speaks Spanish and worked at a management consulting firm and completed course work related to international relations in Mexico City.

He has also previously covered sports at USC and is an avid golfer. So, he should feel right at home here in the Coachella Valley.

At The Desert Sun, Horwitz will cover the Palm Springs, Desert Sands and Coachella Valley unified school districts at a time of significant activity, with schools coming off of a year of distance learning and districts and school boards wrestling with the best way to educate thousands of students amid an ongoing pandemic.
