The Virginia Tech Drone Park is offering grants to cover testing costs for up to 20 undergraduate students who want to obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Remote Pilot Certificate — also called a Part 107 Certificate — is required by the FAA for all drone flights for business or commercial purposes, nonprofit work, and education. Under the Virginia Tech Drone Policy, it is also required to fly on Virginia Tech property or to fly a Virginia Tech-owned drone, including those borrowed from University Libraries.

Applicants selected for the program will be reimbursed the $175 test fee with proof of a passing grade by Dec. 17, 2021.

The Drone Park can also help students prepare for the exam, and will host workshops during the semester that address common topics covered on the test.

To apply, fill out the online application by Thursday, Sept. 23.
