The Port of Rotterdam has teamed up with the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus Center for Urban, Port & Transport Economics and Shipping and Transport College (STC) International to provide continuous knowledge development in the fields of energy transition and digitisation.

The educational institutes involved in this partnership will bring scientific and practical knowledge in the fields of port economy as well as strategic and operational port management and leadership. The Port of Rotterdam will add its knowledge and experience.

Through the partnership, all parties will work together to set up training programmes to combine the state-of-the-art knowledge of ports with underlying economic, managerial, and technical principles.

These various programmes are characterised by a specific focus on relevant themes, a certain target group, such as executives or young professionals, and their duration and form. These can be conducted online, in person or a combination of both.

The portfolio will be extended in the coming period.

The Port of Rotterdam and these three educational parties have previously worked together in the field of international port training. The first joint programmes were the Port Executive Leadership Circle and the Port Management Programme which were successfully completed in 2020 but temporarily discontinued due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New additions of existing courses will start in 2022.

The cooperation between all of these parties aims to lead to a broader package of maritime training courses in the years to come that are perfectly aligned with the demand from the international market.

The Port of Rotterdam has recently announced a successful drone pilot after a section of the quay at the Yangtze Canal was transformed into a drone port to demonstrate a long-range drone from the Dutch company Avy. Announced in November 2021, a live view of the drone images was streamed to assess the added value of drone imaging in comparison to images from fixed cameras in the port.

There is more to being a drone pilot than just buying a machine and flying in your backyard. It can be that simple, but most of us will need to understand some drone laws before we try to take to the sky.
