Some epic drone imagery depicts the new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo sliding about over ice and through a desert.
Porsche has commissioned renowned drone pilot Johnny FPV to show off the breadth of ability displayed by its new Taycan Cross Turismo through dissonant opposites desert and snow.
The collaboration is between 25-year-old drone pilot Johnny Schaer from Chicago, USA and Finnish race car driver Jukka Honkavuori. The entire shoot was directed by Emmy award-winning director Nicholas Schrunk.
In the short drone footage clip, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is shown driving on identical tracks in both snow in Finland and the desert of the United Arab Emirates. The footage interchanges seamlessly between the two extremes, separated by 5000km as the crow flies.
Each location is 60 degrees celsius apart, hence the reference to the -30 and +30 on the Porsche’s purpose-designed livery.
The Taycan Cross Turismo is Porsche’s first electric ‘Cross Utility Vehicle’, with the German manufacturer no doubt keen to accentuate the car’s off-road ability.
Drone footage shows the electric Porsche powersliding through long sweeping corners as the feed switches between identical pinpoints on the snow and desert tracks.
Schaer developed his own style of flying over the last 10 years, now a well-known professional. “It’s important to fly in a unique way, to establish a trademark style,” says Schaer.
“My videos bear my signature. They’re not jerky, they’re precise and they’re very fluid.”
The aerial precision is what allows the footage to change seamlessly between the landscapes, while gratuitous slow-motion and daring stunts (such as flying through the open window of the speeding Porsche) add to the visual drama.
